Tonus
Stooling rye
-
TONUS is a multi-stemmed rye that differs from forage or cereal rye in that its many stems give it greater biomass production potential.
Fonctionnal benefits
- High biomass production potential;
- A hardy rye;
- An excellent crop precedent.
The benefits in detail
-
High biomass production potential:
- TONUS is a multi-purpose (or forest) rye, i.e. the result of a cross between a cereal rye and a perennial wild rye (Secale cereale x Secale montanum).
- It has a high tillering capacity in autumn and therefore a high biomass potential, ideal for replenishing fodder stocks or for covering soils and restoring organic matter.
- Its late heading means it can be harvested around April/May to maximise yield while maintaining forage quality.
A hardy rye:
- TONUS is highly resistant to cold (down to -20°C).
- It is also not very susceptible to disease.
An excellent crop precedent:
- Its powerful root system improves soil structure.
- As a result, superficial drying out of the soil in spring is low compared with that induced by Italian ryegrass.
- After harvesting, its regrowth is low, limiting competition with the following crop and the need for weed control.
